ABOUT US

Coalition of Women Against Abuse in Liberia (COWAL) is a women-centered organization committed to restoring dignity, hope, and opportunity to vulnerable women and girls across Liberia. Established in 2010, the organization emerged from a deep concern for the growing challenges of abuse, exploitation, and extreme poverty affecting women in many communities.

In 2017, COWAL was reconstituted as the social welfare arm of Agape International Outreach Ministries, strengthening its foundation and expanding its capacity to serve. This transition allowed the program to combine social support with faith-based guidance, creating a holistic approach to healing and empowerment.

At its core, COWAL works to prevent and address gender-based violence by offering safe spaces, counseling support, and community education. Through awareness campaigns and advocacy, the organization helps families and communities recognize abuse, challenge harmful norms, and protect the rights of women and girls.

Education and skills development are central to its mission. Women are equipped with practical vocational abilities, literacy support, and personal development training that enable them to build sustainable livelihoods. These opportunities help participants move away from cycles of dependency, prostitution, and poverty toward self-reliance.

Grounded in Christian values, the program also nurtures spiritual growth, moral guidance, and a sense of purpose. By combining compassion, training, and faith, COWAL continues to uplift women, restore lives, and inspire stronger, healthier communities for the future.
